GORM is a comedic take on the original Tamagotchi concept. The main character, GORM, is a Viking trapped inside a Gameboy Advance. GORM needs you help to keep him entertained, cleaned and fulfilled in his daily routines. This playful concept provided a unique opportunity to design an engaging user interface and experience.
Key Features
UI Design: The interface was designed to be intuitive and engaging, with realistic haptic animations for button clicks.
User Experience: The animations and humorous actions of GORM allows users to create an emotional attachment when caring for him.
Case Design: Inspired by the Gameboy Advances this case is a familiar design where users will easily be ale to pick up on how to interact with GORM.
Prototyping: The prototype was fundamental in linking videos and allowing users to have different game experience each time.
To maximize the project’s focus on UI/UX, I concentrated on:
User-Centered Design: Ensuring the interface was simple and intuitive for users of all skill levels.
Interaction Feedback: Providing clear visual and auditory feedback for every button press to enhance user satisfaction and understanding.
Consistency: Maintaining a cohesive visual language across all screens and animations to create a unified experience.
Playfulness: Incorporating humor and charm into the design to make the experience enjoyable and memorable.
Balancing Humor with Usability: Ensuring GORM’s animations did not detract from the clarity of the interface and user experience. This was addressed by using consistent button layouts and clear visual cues.
Tool Limitations: While Spline was ideal for quick 3D modeling, it lacked advanced rendering capabilities. I embraced these limitations by focusing on clean, simple designs that aligned with the project’s playful tone.
Navigation Complexity: Designing a button-based navigation system that felt modern and intuitive required iterative prototyping and user testing.
